GrabIt Setup
Explore Usenet with GrabIt, a widely used free newsreader, paired with Easynews, a top-tier Usenet provider. This guide walks through setting up GrabIt with Easynews in a few straightforward steps.
Install GrabIt
Visit the official GrabIt website and get the latest version for your operating system. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Open GrabIt and Configure a Server
When launching GrabIt for the first time, a setup wizard will appear to guide the initial server configuration. To add more servers later, right-click on “My GrabIt” and select “Add server.”
Enter Newshosting Server Information
Connect GrabIt to your Newshosting account by entering the following details:
- Profile Name: Choose a recognizable name (e.g., “Newshosting”).
- Hostname: news.newshosting.com.
- Port: Use 119 for a standard connection or 563 for SSL encryption. We recommend using SSL connections to protect your Usenet activity.
- Username: Enter your Newshosting login name.
- Password: Provide your Newshosting password.
Enable SSL for a Secure Connection
For encrypted access, select "Encrypted server connection (SSL)", which operates on port 563. Port 119 is available for non-SSL connections.
Save and Finalize the Setup
After entering the details, click "Finish" to apply the settings.
Start Using Usenet
GrabIt is now connected to Newshosting, making it easy to access and navigate Usenet.
