Speed Up GrabIt with Newshosting
Improve Performance with These GrabIt Adjustments
1. Use Recommended Server Settings
Check that you're using the correct server address, port, and SSL settings. For Newshosting, use:
-
Server: news.newshosting.com
-
Port: 563 (SSL enabled)
-
Connections: 10–12 recommended
2. Enable SSL
To enable SSL in GrabIt:
-
Right-click the server in the left panel and choose "Server Properties."
-
Check the box labeled "Encrypted server connection (SSL)."
-
When prompted, click "Yes" to let GrabIt set the secure port (563) automatically.
SSL not only protects your privacy, but may improve stability on some networks. Make sure SSL is enabled in the server properties for Newshosting.
3. Adjust Server Priority
If using multiple servers, check that Newshosting has a higher priority to avoid fallback to slower connections.
4. Schedule Activity During Off-Peak Hours
Running header updates or large tasks late at night or early morning may reduce the chance of speed-related issues due to network congestion.
5. Watch for Hanging Refreshes
Group refreshes that take too long may cause GrabIt to stall. Monitor the refresh progress bar — if it hangs at the end, close and reopen GrabIt.
6. Keep GrabIt Updated
Older versions of GrabIt may introduce performance issues. Visit the official site to download the latest release.
7. Prefer a Wired Connection
Wireless setups may introduce interference or bandwidth drops. For the fastest performance on Newshosting, a wired Ethernet connection is recommended.
8. Fine-Tune Batch Settings
Visit Preferences > Batch and adjust the number of simultaneous tasks based on your RAM and connection speed to avoid overloading your system.
9. Check Folder Location Performance
Storing data on a local SSD offers faster write speeds than using a NAS or external hard drive. You can review this setting under Preferences > Folders.
10. Enable Disk Space Safeguards
Activate the "Automatically pause batch" setting in Preferences > Advanced to stop activity when disk space runs low.
11. Adjust Error Checking if Needed
On older hardware, disabling single and multipart error checking (Preferences > Advanced) can improve performance.
12. Manage Cache Usage
Free up memory by reducing cache size under Preferences > History if RAM usage is high.
13. Limit Concurrent Processing
Go to Preferences > Repair and Extract and uncheck simultaneous processing options to avoid performance dips.
14. Disable Error Retry on Missing Articles
Disable "Continue downloading on article not found error" under Preferences > Advanced to save processing time.
15. Consider Environment-Specific Adjustments
Performance varies based on system and network configuration. More tips are available in the GrabIt Help Center.
