Can SABnzbd Run on NAS, Android, or Other Operating Systems?

SABnzbd is compatible with any operating system that supports the following components:

  • Python 3.8 or higher, installed with pip

  • The Cheetah template engine for Python (installed via pip)

  • par2 and unrar tools

  • Optionally, the yEnc Python library

The SABnzbd development team offers source code and installation packages for both Windows and macOS. For other platforms—including many NAS devices—availability may depend on third-party developers or require manual setup using the source code.

For unsupported systems, you may need to locate a compatible community-maintained package or compile from source. This process may involve custom configuration and troubleshooting.

In terms of hardware, SABnzbd benefits from additional RAM—particularly when handling large Usenet transfers or using fast Internet connections. Devices with less than 256MB of memory and no swap space are likely to experience instability or failures.

Due to the absence of Python support on Android, SABnzbd does not operate on Android-based systems.
