Adding a New Usenet Server in SABnzbd

SABnzbd allows users to add multiple Usenet servers, offering increased flexibility and better access to articles across different servers. This guide outlines how to add a new server, configure priorities, and enable secure access.

Step 1: Open the SABnzbd Server Settings

  1. Launch the SABnzbd interface in your Web browser.

  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to open Settings.

  3. Select the Servers tab from the horizontal menu.

Step 2: Enter New Server Details

  1. Click Add Server.

  2. Fill in the following fields:

    • Server Address: Enter the hostname (e.g., news.newshosting.com).

    • Port: Use 563 or 443 for SSL connections.

    • Username and Password: Input your Newshosting account credentials.

    • Connections: Choose the number of simultaneous connections (e.g., 10).

    • SSL: Check this box to use a secure, encrypted connection.

Step 3: Adjust Optional Settings

  • Priority: Set a priority level between 0 (highest) and 99 (lowest). Servers with lower values are tried first.

Note: The article retention displayed is for reference only. Actual article retention depends on the Usenet provider.

Step 4: Save and Verify

  1. Click Test Server to make sure everything is set up correctly.

  2. Click Save to apply the changes.

  3. SABnzbd will attempt to connect and validate the server settings.

  4. A successful connection is indicated by a green status icon next to the server.

Tips for Better Performance

  • Always use SSL for encrypted Usenet access.

  • Mix servers from different providers to improve access to older articles and boost reliability.

  • Use the SABnzbd status panel to monitor connection errors or performance issues.

How Server Priority Works

SABnzbd checks servers based on their assigned priority. It starts with the group of servers with the highest priority (lowest number). If a server doesn't have the requested article, it moves to the next one in the same group. If none in the group succeed, the process continues with the next lower priority group.

This logic helps maximize article access and maintains stable Usenet performance across providers.
