SABnzbd Setup Guide for macOS (Newshosting)

SABnzbd is a newsreader designed to automate access to articles on Usenet. When configured with Newshosting's server details, SABnzbd enables fast, secure article retrieval on macOS. This guide walks through the setup process.

Step 1: Install SABnzbd

  1. Visit https://sabnzbd.org/downloads.

  2. Choose the macOS version and follow the installation prompts.

  3. Launch SABnzbd after installation completes.

Step 2: Start Initial Configuration

SABnzbd will launch in your default browser.

  1. Select your language and proceed.

  1. When prompted to configure a server, use the details below.

Step 3: Enter Newshosting Server Details

  • Host: news.newshosting.com

  • Port: 563

  • SSL: Enabled (check the SSL box)

  • Username: Your Newshosting username

  • Password: Your Newshosting password

Click Test Server to verify the connection. Then continue.

Step 4: Complete the Wizard

  1. Choose a name for the server (e.g., "Newshosting").

  2. Leave the remaining settings at their defaults unless you have specific preferences.

  3. Finalize the configuration.

To automatically verify and extract articles:

  1. Go to Config > Switches.

  2. Enable or disable features like automatic repair or cleanup based on your workflow.

Step 8: Secure Your Setup (Recommended)

Enable access control to prevent unauthorized access:

  1. Visit Config > General.

  2. Set a username and password under the Security section.
