Newshosting app stuck on Processing and Decoding Files

If after downloading articles the Newshosting newsreader client appears to hang (showing no progress) while processing and decoding the articles downloaded, Windows Defender may be blocking writes to the Newshosting downloads folder. In this situation, the downloads folder configured in the Newshosting newsreader client should be excluded from Windows Defender protection. The steps on Windows 10 and 11 are similar, but with slight differences:

 

Windows 10 Instructions:

  • Start > Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Security -> Virus & Threat Protection (Or Search for Virus & threat protection)
  • Under Virus & threat protection settings select “Manage settings” -> Scroll to the bottom and under Exclusions select “Add or remove exclusions”
  • Click “+ Add an exclusion” and select “Folder” and navigate to your Newshosting download folder (such as C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Downloads\Newshosting)
     

Windows 11 Instructions:

  • Start -> Settings -> Privacy & security -> Windows Security -> Virus & threat protection (Or Search for Virus & threat protection)
  • Under Virus & threat protection settings select “Manage settings” -> Scroll to the bottom and under Exclusions select “Add or remove exclusions”
  • Click “+ Add an exclusion” and select “Folder” and navigate to your Newshosting download folder (such as C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Downloads\Newshosting)
