How to Improve NewsLeecher Speeds

Optimizing NewsLeecher for Faster Usenet Access with Newshosting

If NewsLeecher seems slower than expected, small adjustments in your server configuration can improve performance. Here are some settings to review in the NewsLeecher Manager tab:

Make Sure NewsLeecher Is Up to Date

Visit https://www.newsleecher.com/software/ to verify you're using the latest version of NewsLeecher. Updates often include important bug fixes and performance improvements.

Correct Server Settings

Confirm that the server address is news.newshosting.com, SSL is enabled, and port 563 is used.

Try Switching Ports

If speeds are still low using port 563, try alternate SSL ports such as 443 or 80. These can sometimes bypass throttling or routing issues.

Test a Wired Connection

If you're currently using Wi-Fi, switching to a wired Ethernet connection may provide better stability and speed.

Number of Connections

Newshosting supports up to 100 connections. Using too few may slow things down, while using too many could overwhelm your connection. Start with 20–40 connections and adjust as needed.

SSL Configuration

Make sure the box labeled "Use Encrypted Server Connections (SSL)" is selected. If prompted to update the port to 563, click "Yes."

Server Priority

If you use multiple servers, set Newshosting to the highest priority. This helps NewsLeecher choose the most reliable access point first.

Advanced Settings

Under "Show Advanced Settings," fine-tune options such as server timeouts or article cache limits. These settings help when working with large newsgroups or high-speed connections.

Article Retention

Newshosting offers long-term article retention. Make sure your search and indexing settings are configured to access the full range of available articles.

Bandwidth Usage

If you're experiencing slow performance, try temporarily disabling other Internet-intensive activities on your network. Streaming, gaming, and large background transfers can reduce available bandwidth for NewsLeecher.

Antivirus and Firewall Software

Some security software can interfere with NewsLeecher performance. Consider temporarily disabling these tools or adding an exception for NewsLeecher to see if speed improves.

Router or Modem Reboot

Restart your networking equipment. A quick power cycle often helps restore optimal speeds.

Server Address Typo

Double-check that the server address entered in NewsLeecher is correct. Typos can result in slower fallback behavior or failure to connect.
