Fine-Tune Your Searches with Newsbin Filters

Newsbin's filtering system gives Newshosting users detailed control over how articles are displayed and organized within subscribed newsgroups. Filters can be used to refine visible results by age, subject line, size, poster, and more.

Understanding the Filter Bar

The Filter Bar appears at the top of the Newsbin interface when a newsgroup is loaded. It allows manual entry of keywords or phrases to focus the visible article list. This can be used alongside advanced filter settings.

Available Filter Options

  • Minimum and Maximum Size: Exclude articles outside a specific size range.

  • Age Filter: Show articles within a set number of days. This overrides global group age settings.

  • Subject Filter: Display only articles that contain specific words or patterns.

  • Poster Filter: Limit visibility to posts from certain usernames or exclude specific posters.

  • Filter Profile: Select from saved filtering preferences for different groups or uses.

Saving Filter Profiles

To quickly apply frequently used filters, Newsbin allows saving filter profiles. This is especially useful for groups with regular posting patterns or when working with Indexer search results.

Tip for Newshosting Subscribers

Filter settings are applied only to visible headers. To improve results, refresh headers before filtering.
