Troubleshooting Common Newsbin Pro Issues with Newshosting

Use these steps to diagnose and resolve issues when Newsbin Pro misbehaves while connected to Newshosting:

1. Hold Shift During Startup

Holding Shift while launching Newsbin will bypass saved window layout settings and may resolve certain display issues or crashes.

2. Reset the Display

If toolbars, tabs, or panes are missing:

  • Open Options > Reset Display GUI.

  • Newsbin will restart and restore the interface layout.

3. Server List Is Missing

If no servers appear under Options > Servers, or the list is unexpectedly empty:

  • Recreate the Newshosting server using New Server.

  • Enter the correct server address and authentication information.

4. Program Won’t Start or Crashes on Launch

  • Use Task Manager to ensure no stuck Newsbin process is running.

  • If the issue persists, rename the .nbi file in your Newsbin data folder. This file stores configuration settings and may be corrupted.

5. Database Problems or Strange Behavior

  • Exit Newsbin.

  • Navigate to the Newsbin data folder.

  • Temporarily rename any .db3 files (these contain group and header data). Newsbin will rebuild them on next launch.

6. Antivirus or Security Software Interference

  • Disable antivirus or firewall tools temporarily to test whether they’re blocking Newsbin’s Usenet access.

7. Incomplete Headers or Missing Articles

  • Confirm Newshosting’s article retention matches the group you're accessing.

  • Retry fetching headers or search results. Indexer filters may need adjustment.
