Extracting Multi-Part RAR Archives

Possible Causes

When extracting a multi-part RAR archive with WinRAR, you may encounter an issue where WinRAR prompts you to select the next part after each extracted part, instead of automatically extracting all parts. This behavior could be caused by the following reasons:

  1. Starting with the wrong file: Ensure that you start the extraction process with the main RAR file (e.g., file.rar), not one of the subsequent parts (e.g., file.r00, file.r01, etc.).

  2. Files not in the same directory: All parts of the RAR archive (.rar, .r00, .r01, etc.) must be located in the same folder or directory.

  3. File names changed during download: If the file names were altered during the download process (e.g., file (1).r01), it may interrupt the automatic extraction process.

  4. Incomplete or corrupted files: A single missing or corrupted part can prevent the successful extraction of the entire archive.

Steps to Resolve the Issue

To resolve the issue and enable automatic extraction of the multi-part RAR archive, follow these steps:

  1. Verify the starting file: Open WinRAR and navigate to the folder containing the RAR archive. Ensure that you select the main RAR file (e.g., file.rar) to initiate the extraction process.

  2. Ensure all parts are in the same folder: Move all parts of the RAR archive (.rar, .r00, .r01, etc.) to the same folder or directory.

  3. Check if file names were changed: If the file names were altered during the download process, try renaming them back to their original names (e.g., file.r01, file.r02, etc.).

  4. Check for missing or corrupted parts: Verify that all parts of the RAR archive are present and not corrupted. You can use the "Repair" or "Test" functionality in WinRAR to check for any missing or damaged parts.

After following these steps, try extracting the RAR archive again using WinRAR. If the issue persists, you may need to re-download the archive.
